Made of Afrika

I've done some really cool things in my life, but owning a chocolate, coffee and champagne café is probably right up there as my one of favourites.

Afrikoa Café was located in the most vibrant art district of Johannesburg South Africa, a beautifully fitted establishment with works from Laduma Ngxokolo hanging on the walls and bold Afrocentric designs all around.

So when it was time to think of visuals for Afrikoa, the first "from bean to bar" chocolate in the world. I wanted to tell this particular narrative through the age old tradition of storytelling and how a lot of our traditions were passed down from each generation, by way of using hands as the vehicle.

When writing the treatment, I wanted the hands to be soft and gentle. With each transition the hands would age from; a child in the sand to an elderly woman enjoying the spoils on the land (so to speak).

The tag line: "Made of Afrika" resonated with me and I wanted to highlight "By Africans" as the secondary tagline not expressed but rather implied by the brand in the visuals.
